The Works Projects Administration (WPA) was an amazing government program that put artists to work in the post-depression years. The theme of bold, simple, 2D imagery from the 1930-40's holds true with my poster renderings. I've also painted law enforcement firearm target posters with added abstract elements to render them less menacing.
