When I was in high school my dad gave me his vintage (even then) AGFA Silette 35MM, an inexpensive point and shoot-type camera. Essentially the same updated model today can be had for $24.95. Back then the light sensor still worked and it took great news photos destined for the black and white medium of newspapers. I was in deep. At The Monarch, St. Leo's student newspaper I spent time learning to make newsy journalistic images, head shots, public speakers, student government meetings, and live action sporting events.

After college I shot a beach wedding and publicity photos for a male stripper troupe. Working in film, both felt like a high wire act I didn't care to repeat. This was a big reason why I moved to motionless objects, noticing geometric shapes, the use of slow shutter speeds and blur, as well as abstract images, and architecture as recurring subjects.
